Maisel talks 'new wave' of bigscreen games

Forget superheroes. The following wave of major movie franchises can come from casual games, beginning with ''Angry Wild birds.''That was the content shipped by former Marvel Galleries chairman David Maisel, who's now a proper consultant to ''Angry Birds'' creator Rovio.Maisel, who oversaw the launch of Marvel Studios' movie franchise with ''Iron Guy,'' noted that to date movie versions of game titles haven't been consistent those who win, with 23 films calculating about $35 million domestic box office. ''They've occurred by firms that will lower your budget and then try to hit just one, as opposed to the homer you receive from an 'Avatar' or perhaps a super hero film.'' With console games, stated Maisel, ''the possibility of large entertainment franchises wasn't as great.''''With casual gaming, everybody is playing them, I believe it's the very first time we'll see massive brands being released of the overall game world and superceding what gaming continues to be.''Rather than replacing superheroes this can be a opportunity to begin a new wave. Instead of replacing superheroes this can be a opportunity to begin a new wave.''Maisel stated the retailing potential of casual games can also be huge. ''It was previously the only method to produce a global merchandisable property was via a blockbuster picture or via a really effective global cartoon show. Both individuals situations are really costly and difficult to do. Despite a movie get you noticed don't normally sell much merchandise around the first movie, it's around the follow up.''But ''Angry Wild birds,'' he stated, is producing interest unlike anything he ever saw in the movie career. ''It really helps make the statistics from the (''Angry Birds'') movie harder, because we're able to most likely sell the item with no movie.''Maisel stated he hopes ''Angry Birds'' will illustrate towards the movie business the potential for ''massive brands arriving in the gaming realm.'' ''I think the awareness has already been escaping . there this new technology and a chance to experience our phones can launch massive brands in ways that's never been done before.'' Contact David S.
